Our model in Mstb. 1:18 shows the version A580-1 which differs from the 580 in the telescopic fork instead of the parallelogram fork and the rear suspension.
In the mid-1940s, the Swiss Army formulated the need for an all-terrain army motorcycle like those used in Germany. The Condor-Werke in Courfaivre near Delémont was commissioned with the development. The company already had experience in the manufacture of two-wheelers and also produced bicycles for the postal service and the military, among others. For the motorcycles, proven Swiss engine manufacturers were used. This solidified Condor's good reputation, which was based primarily on the durability of the power units. The Condor 580 was built as a civilian and an army version. The letter A stands for army. Whereas the civilian version is of minor importance within the total production volume, the army version was produced in a run of almost 2,800 units. The A580 soon gained a certain cult status both inside and outside the army. This heavy and solid machine can still be admired today - after a good 70 years - at numerous motorcycle and classic car meetings.
