The model

Each of the models is handmade using the resin casting process and is subject to strict quality controls. The edition is limited to 333 pieces.

The 1/43rd scale model has intricate details. The aerial, wheel splash guard and sun visor, for example, are fitted by hand. Up to 16 high-quality decals complete and perfect the appearance. The precise reproduction of the driver's cab interior, the true-to-scale implementation of the tank and spare wheel or the fine representation of the Trösch lifting platform at the rear of the vehicle are also impressive.

This model is rounded off by a high-quality display case measuring 30 cm x 13 cm x 11 cm. The transparent acrylic glass cover reliably protects the model from external impact, dust and dirt. The solid black base gives the model a high-contrast base. The underside of the base is covered with velvet fabric, has a high-quality feel and avoids scratches on the base.

The original

The Saurer D250B series was launched in 1982 as a commercial vehicle for solo operation. At the factory, this type was offered as a truck, tipper or with municipal bodies. These included vehicles for refuse collection, sewer cleaning or, for example, the fire brigade. The largest number of units that left the factory in Arbon on Lake Constance, however, was probably the truck with a flatbed/canvas cover. Numerous Swiss haulage companies relied on the tried and tested front-wheel drive, which became a permanent feature of the road scene after the clearly visible improvements such as enlarged windscreens and side windows, wind deflectors, distinctive cooling grille, etc. The factory also supplied its Saurer trucks. The factory also supplied its Saurer original parts with a D250B to all branches throughout the country.

The development

As with every model, the challenge at the beginning is to find a vehicle that corresponds practically 100% to the prototype. This is not always easy.

We often work closely with the owners of the original vehicles, with specialists, but also with the Swiss Army or museums where unbuilt specimens can be found.

After that, we have to prepare the data for our partner in China. The complete information gathering with exact measurements of the original vehicle, color matching, detailed photos, also of the interior, usually takes a good 3 months. Even if plans of the vehicle are available, we still shoot almost 150-200 pictures until all details are captured.

Once all the relevant data has been transmitted, the first prototype is on our desk after a good 6 months. Of course, it is still unpainted and without chrome trim, but we can check the dimensions and assess the shape and appearance. If necessary, corrections are made and then the first painted prototype is produced. This is also checked for all details.

Most of the time, it still requires small modifications that can only be made when a completely painted hand sample is available. If the assessment of the second decoration sample is also positive, the production process can be started.

By the time the model has passed through all the stations, at least 12-15 months have passed. And the transport by ship to Europe and by truck to Switzerland takes another 2 months. In summary, the period for the realization of a model takes a good year and a half.
