The original

Unimog is an abbreviation for universal motorized implement. It is a multifunctional tractor developed in Germany for agricultural use in the immediate post-war period. The Swiss Army was the first export customer ever to recognize the potential of this revolutionary vehicle for military purposes. Over a period of twenty years, it procured a total of around 835 vehicles of the Boehringer 70200, Unimog 2010, Unimog 401 and Unimog 411 series. These vehicles served faithfully for forty years, primarily as line construction vehicles, but also as carrier vehicles for snow clearing equipment. Since they were the smallest diesel-powered vehicles in the army, they were affectionately known as "Dieseli". Our model shows a Unimog 2010 from 1951, as it was used for many years as a driving school car, e.g. in transmission recruit schools, or transport officer schools.
