The Saurer 2DM is considered a legend among Swiss army trucks. Built from 1959, initially for the transport and construction industry, it impressed with its absolute reliability and incredible towing capacity thanks to its permanent four-wheel drive. Between 1964 and 1976, the army purchased the immense number of 3200 Saurer vehicles, as well as 1600 units of the identical Berna. Due to their high reliability, the last trucks remained in service until 2009. Even years after the army trucks were taken out of service, numerous vehicles are still in excellent condition or in some cases still in commercial use. Many beautifully restored Saurer and Berna trucks can still be admired today at classic car or club meetings in Switzerland and abroad.
