A study commissioned by the Swiss Army in the 1960s, titled “Combat in the Mountains,” concluded that the motorization of the mountain divisions needed to be improved. A call for bids was issued for the procurement of 200 off-road vehicles for firing BANTAM guided anti-tank missiles. Due to the successful deployment of the Army’s existing Haflinger vehicles in alpine terrain, the decision quickly fell on the 700 AP Series 2. The decision was reinforced by the relatively low purchase price and short delivery times.
‍
This was of great importance, as the Swedish company Bofors emerged as the winner of the guided missile evaluation with its Bantam system, and the launchers were available for prompt delivery. Thus, the weapon system was mounted on the Haflingers in a short time at the Bern Arms Factory (RUAG). The system consisted of a powder-propelled, wire-guided missile in a launch container, along with a remote control unit, and was capable of engaging tanks at a range of up to 2 km.

PAL companies and infantry units of the Swiss Army used the Bantam-Haflinger for a good two decades.
