The Saurer 2DM is considered a legend among Swiss army trucks. Built from 1959 onwards, initially for the transport and construction industries, it impressed with its absolute reliability and incredible towing capacity thanks to its permanent four-wheel drive. Between 1964 and 1976, the army purchased the immense number of 3200 Saurer vehicles, as well as 1600 of the identical Berna. Due to their high reliability, the last trucks remained in service with the troops until 2009.

Even years after the army trucks were taken out of service, many vehicles are still in excellent condition or are still used commercially in some cases. Many beautifully restored Saurer and Berna trucks can still be admired today at classic car or club meetings in Switzerland and abroad.
