The original

The history of the Bucher company from Niederwenigen ZH goes back to 1807, when Jakob Bucher bought the Schmitten workshop in Murzeln for his son Heinrich. For decades, the company was mainly involved in the production of fruit presses and agricultural machinery. The company hesitated for a long time before entering the tractor manufacturing business. However, as demand was very high during the 1940s and 1950s and imports of foreign tractors were subject to quotas until 1958, Bucher was unable to meet the high demand for foreign tractors. To counteract this situation, the company decided to start building tractors as well. In 1954, the attractive Bucher D-1800 was presented to the public for the first time at the agricultural exhibition in Lucerne. Within a very short time, Bucher enjoyed incredible sales success. A total of 4948 Bucher tractors were manufactured at Bucher's Niederwenigen plant between 1954 and 1973.
