Of the approximately 60 Alpine cars used by the postal bus companies, only 4 examples were procured by Berna. Thus, this model already represents a small rarity. The vehicles were delivered in 1954 and were primarily used on the summer season lines in the Alps. The 9-liter diesel engine in combination with the distinctive triad of the postbus is still legendary today. The retirement of the four Berna took place between 1974 and 1984.

The development of the PTT Alpenwagen IIIa dates back to 2010. With the exception of a few small series manufacturers, who produced very nice Saurer postbuses at relatively high prices, only postbuses based on internationally known vehicles, mainly German brands, in PTT livery were available on the market. Of course, these did not really correspond to the original Saurer, Berna, or FBW postbuses.
Numerous discussions with experts from the trade and the collector scene revealed that there is a great willingness to purchase an accurate and 100% correct Schnauzen Postauto in interesting quantities. This was followed by clarifications with the factory in China regarding manufacturing processes and level of detail. When an agreement was reached, the contract was signed and the first series of the famous Swiss Postbus went into production. In the meantime, it is by far the most successful model in the ACE Collectors Edition range.
