The model

This detailed model comes in a high quality collector's box. Many interesting facts are printed on the bottom of the box. Research in archives, on site, as well as the most accurate photographing and measuring are the basis for the model of this unique Swiss fighter jet produced in the resin casting process. The only remaining specimen is in the Flieger- und Flabmuseum in Dübendorf. The production of the model in Mstb. 1:72 was limited to 500 pcs. and will not be produced again. Already the decision to produce this jet as a model shows our passion for Swiss aviation models. Furthermore we used a landing gear that can be attached to the landing gear bay by means of very small power magnets and does not require any gluing or tedious insertion. Of course, the landing gear doors are included as accessory parts. So the model can be represented 100% correctly in flight configuration or standing on the Tarmac.

The original

The FFA P-16 is a jet-powered ground combat aircraft developed and built in Switzerland by Flug- und Fahrzeugwerke Altenrhein (FFA) beginning in 1950, but ultimately not introduced into the Swiss Air Force. During the entire P-16 flight test, a flight time of 233 hours was achieved with 508 flights. A total of 5 prototypes were built. During testing, two prototypes were lost in crashes due to technical defects. The second accident was then taken as a reason to cancel the serial production for the Swiss Air Force.

The development

As with any model, the challenge at the beginning is to find an original object that corresponds virtually 100% to the original prototype. This is not always easy. We often work closely with the owners of the originals, with specialists, but also with the Swiss Army or museums, where unbuilt specimens can be found. Then we have to prepare the data for our partner in China. The complete procurement of information with exact measurements of the original model, color matching, detailed photos, also of the interior, usually takes a good 3 months. Even if plans of the object are available, we still shoot almost 150-200 pictures until all details are captured. Once all the relevant data has been submitted, the first prototype is on our desk after a good 6 months. Of course, it is still unpainted and without chrome trim, but we can check the measurements and assess the shape and appearance. If necessary, corrections are sent and then the first painted prototype is made. This is also checked for all details. In most cases, small modifications are required, which can only be made when a completely painted hand sample is available. If the evaluation of the second decal is positive, the production process can be started. By the time the model has passed through all the stations, at least 12-15 months have passed. And the transport by ship to Europe and by truck to Switzerland takes another 2 months. In summary, it takes a good year and a half to realize a model.
