The original

As part of the further development of the PC-6, Stans was aware that the 340 hp Lycoming piston engine was at its performance limit. However, more powerful engines that could be installed were not available on the market at the time.

This changed with the appearance of the first propeller turbines. However, these only weighed around half as much as a piston engine. As a result, the turbine had to be moved further forward for reasons of the center of gravity. This lengthened the Porter's fuselage by around 80 cm to a total of 11 meters and increased its power output to 520 hp.

This was reflected in improved take-off and landing characteristics, climb performance and cruising speed. As a result, the Turboporter attracted a great deal of international attention and really took off commercially from 1964.
