The original

Interlaken airfield; it was March 8, 1962 and the engines of the Hunter Mk.58 with the registration J-4075 were already running. The control tower gave the pilot clearance for take-off. The aircraft moved from the parking position towards the runway. After reaching the runway, the pilot pushed the thrust lever forward and the fighter jet accelerated. But something went wrong. Take-off aborted! The aircraft sped through the safety net (Wilderswil runway head), over the BOB railroad line and across the main road at over 200 km/h. After a few hundred meters the plane came to a standstill. Even the railroad track was bent in the incident. The Hunter's landing gear was completely torn off and other serious damage to the aircraft was found. Miraculously, no one was injured. Hard to imagine; this incident has of course gone down in the history of Interlaken. For cost reasons, the Hunter was not repaired for the time being.

A few years later, however, the decision was taken to restore the aircraft to working order. A group of enthusiasts campaigned for the Interlaken coat of arms to be affixed to the vertical stabilizer during the last inspection. Another milestone in Swiss aviation. The J-4075 still bore the FL RGT 3 squadron emblem on the left-hand side of the cockpit and remained in service until 1995, when it was decommissioned and transferred to England
